| ABOUT THE AUTHOR: E.B. Fletcher is an Administrative Reading Specialist in an elementary school near Richmond, VA, USA. Now 37, "Fletch" has adored the Commodore and the UNITED STATES since childhood. As a child, Fletch would often visit relatives in Hampton, Virginia and on every visit always look for those red, white and blue smokestacks! The Big U was moored there from 1969 until 1992. READING LEVEL: The book is written on an approximate third grade reading level but any non-reading child will benefit from having it read to them. The book includes web site listings and defined nautical terms. In addition to information about the ship, the book contains color illustrations, pictures from Fort Schyuler and more. The book is approximately 50 pages long. With the purchase of each book, the child receives a FREE button from the Commodore's school, Fort Schyuler. This book is historical fiction and is told from the eyes of a six year old, Jon, who lives in Philadelphia and adores the "lonely ship."
